Past SE consulting
project examples
- Created a macro
called ASM2DXFs that is run from the assembly environment.
When launched, the macro exports flat pattern (DXF) files for every
sheet-metal
file in the active assembly. The macro uses existing orientation
information for sheetmetal files that already have a flattened model,
and it creates incrementally-named copies of parts that show up multiple
times in the assembly. All resulting DXF files are stored in a single
directory ready to be transferred to a laser or plasma machine.
- The PropSummary code
was modified to look at only draft files -- extracting the file property
information not from the draft files, but from the first-placed
parts shown in the draft files. The client purchased the modified
source code for use in his own software.
- Developed a set
of functions to allow a CAD/CAM software manufacturer to read sheetmetal
flat-pattern data directly. By accessing the flat pattern geometry
straight from the Solid Edge .PSM file, the users will no longer
have to remember to export DXF files -- and they'll never have to
worry about out-of-date .DXF files either.
- The AutoNumber add-in
automatically names Solid Edge files with a part number assigned
from a central database. In this way, networked users need only choose
to save a file and they'll be guaranteed that the file is automatically
named with a unique file name. In addition, a toolbar button allows
the user to "check out" a unique part number from the database
without having it attached to a Solid Edge file.
- The ImageMaker
add-in creates [.TIF] images of draft files whenever a drawing is saved.
In this case the small bitmaps were linked to the company's ERP.
- The BackgroundChanger
program is used to replace the background of Draft files. This allowed
the client to change the background and title-block on all of
its existing
draft files.
- The BatchRenamer
program renames Solid Edge files based on their 'Document Number' property
& updates links to point to renamed files.

Many of these programs
are available for sale and can be customized to your needs. If you're
